**SPOILER** (if you live in the US) Re: last night’s* Law & Order SVU:
The Law and Order franchise, known for its “ripped from the headlines” plots, last night borrowed from perhaps one of the most heartbreaking, most disturbing stories I have ever heard. At the end of the episode I was half expecting there to be something more, some indication to the viewers who might not know the story of Cameron Todd Eillingham that this really happened to a real man (referenced briefly in the episode, something to the effect of “a guy in Texas a while back”) who was really innocent and was really executed. If you haven’t already, please read the September 2009 New Yorker piece on his story.
*Update: Brian Van tells me it wasn’t new last night. I have no idea! I don’t really watch television shows on the television anymore and I was babysitting so I had time to watch television and I just assumed it was new. Also, I’m in Canada so I might have been watching an episode from the future for those in the US. So…spoiler alert…?
